It just so happens, that there were some pretty decent priced flights out of Tucson, so Jeanne booked a couple of tickets, and then had to beat it back home from Texas. They are located in the Santa Cruz Flats just north of Tucson, and are quite honestly, living right alongside the road. This is one small part of the family group on the dirt between the small irrigation canal and the corn field. I am not sure what is going on with the mis-matched iris’s?

This nice little group of shorebirds, including a Killdeer, three Long-billed Dowitchers and a Spotted Sandpipers all got together for a photo. Here is my first ever group of Gamble’s Quail , hanging around a huge feeder block. There are a few places left to check out locally before we leave, once we are settled in Tucson.

For example, and I expect a few of you know what I am referring to… if you photograph a “goshawk” in the middle of Tucson, and the area’s leading birders and everyone else tells you it’s a Cooper’s Hawk …you should listen to them. It turned out that I saw a number of Lucifer Hummingbirds on this trip–at the Ash Canyon B&b on my own and a week later with my New Jersey Audubon group, and in Portal, courtesy of a homeowner who had up to five coming to his feeders, and who kindly allowed my friends and I access. Now, years later, it was time to return.

Tucson, like other communities in the southwest, has satanistic, witch, and other occult groups. Needless to say, animal-rights and other groups are up in arms. Then—and here's the grisly part—the assailant cut the sheep's head off. It has not been found. Police officers speculate that the killing was cult related.

In the past, seeing some of these Ring-necked Ducks would have been rather scarce, so here is a shot of the small group that were on the larger pond. We have been feeling a push to get the 5th wheel down to Tucson, Arizona, which will be our home for the winter, and get prepped for another trip out of the US before the end of the year.

We have escaped the clutches of the Bahamas, and are finally back “home” in Tucson, Texas. Despite their every effort to accumulate every bit of money that was in my wallet, and available on my credit card, this island group totaling more than 700 islands does have some nice birds.
