Endemic Seychelles

They are all recognisable from their families in Africa and are simply referred to by prefixing with “Seychelles” With most species being the only representative of their family, it made identification easy. Red Fody , Madagascar Dove and Zebra Dove were all abundant. How easy was that?

Varied Lorikeets

When we returned recently to check on our Tawny Frogmouth nest , which became a Tawny Frogmouth family, we were delighted to hear the sound of Varied Lorikeets as soon as we opened the vehicle doors. No doubt many of you are familiar with Zebra Finch and Double-barred Finch , which we see on a daily basis in the wild.

Langi Crossing birding part two

The most common finches were the Zebra Finch followed by the Double-barred Finch and then the Long-tailed Finch. Zebra Finch and Double-barred Finch drinking and bathing. The dove family were represented by Peaceful Doves, Diamond Doves and Bar-shouldered Doves and Crested Pigeons came down to the river to drink regularly.

Pasir Ris Park-Singapore

Zebra Doves , Tree Sparrows , Pacific Swallows , Pink-necked Pigeons , Yellow-vented Bulbuls , Asian Koel , Spotted Dove , Rock Dove , Red Junglefowl , Oriental White Eyes and Black-naped Orioles were soon on our list. The grass was in the process of being cut and the birds moved ahead before we managed to photograph them. Common Sandpiper.

Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park and Lower Peirce Reservoir-Singapore

Singapore is a great place to enjoy the woodpecker family. We were surprised that it had taken until this day to find Coconut Lorikeets. It does not show the brightness of the red feathers at all, but you can see it is a beautiful bird and there are “redder” photos here. Banded Woodpecker.
