I’m missing my family and that probably doesn’t leave me in the best frame of mind to write. They play and dance in front of tethered dogs, all the while going about the serious business of stealing those same dog’s food. But it is likely. Especially because my summer birds are gone. Ravens play.

Don’t approach a strange dog, especially one that’s tethered or confined. Your dog’s instinct is to protect the family. If a dog threatens you, don’t scream. Avoid eye contact. Try to remain motionless until the dog leaves, then back away slowly until the dog is out of sight. Spay or neuter your dog.

While humans are uttering “oohs” and “ahhs,” enjoying the 4th of July fireworks, many terrified dogs are digging under or jumping over fences, breaking tethers or even shattering windows in an attempt to escape from the frightening noises. Cats who are allowed outside are also vulnerable to being scared away from their homes.
