To celebrate this minor listing milestone, I chose a 2015 Cabernet by Sand Point Family Vineyards of Acampo, California, whose logo is an adorable California Quail sitting on a swing (we can presumably eliminate the similar Gambel’s Quail by range here).

The Cherokee National Forest just got bigger!

Through multi-partnerships, cooperation, federal funding, and the private conservation efforts of one family, 616 acres were officially added to the Cherokee National Forest in September 2018. This particular land near the Tennessee-Georgia border is critical as a protection for Taylor Branch, a tributary of the Conasauga River.

An Educational Mixed Flock

I particularly enjoyed watching and digiscoping the Red-eyed Vireo family that was foraging low and in good light. It was a Tennessee Warbler and the identification was clinched by the tiny, pointed bill, the thin eye-line, and the green back and wings. I waited, patiently, and finally the bird showed itself.

Looking for Lost Warblers at Parque Rio Loro, Costa Rica

One such star avian family is the Setophagidae, the birds known as wood-warblers. It was quickly followed by wintering, pearly colored Chestnut-sided Warblers , tiny Tennessees , and one smart Black-capped Wilson’s after another. The Olive-crowned Yellowthroat is one of Costa Rica’s resident wood-warbler species.
