Ovenbirds (but not the Ovenbird)

The family Furnariidae consists of ovenbirds and woodcreepers, but the actual Ovenbird belongs to the family of New World Warblers – Parulidae. This is not the most confusing aspect of birds by any means, after all there are tanagers which belong in the cardinal family and cardinals that are tanagers.

An Emerging Trend

Members of the Parulidae family are typically known to be highly migratory but there are many New World Warblers which aren’t. Forest floor/leaf litter specialists, Golden-crowned Warblers often move in pairs. I’ll share another set today: our resident warblers.

Singapore’s Red Junglefowl

During our three weeks in Singapore we encountered many a family of Red Junglefowl- Gallus gallus in various locations. It appears that the Red Junglefowl had been breeding this year around February, because we encountered many a family of them rustling around in the leaves in March. The male Red Junglefowl was always close by, though.
