The Storks of Africa

Storks are typically viewed as wetland species and whilst some storks are restricted to aquatic habitats, others are not. Its range also extends to nearby Madagascar.

Africa’s Big Five and Little Five

Prime destinations for seeing African Elephant in the wild include Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Uganda. Black Rhinos are best sought in South Africa, Namibia and Tanzania. They are harmless to humans and their horns are used for wrestling other males for mating rights.

Summer Books for Kids (and the rest of us)

We see a Puerto Rican Parrot flying over the heads of two humans (the authors, it turns out), their yellow and white shirts shining like beacons in a landscape of forest and olive and emerald greens and cobalt blues. My favorite was the Greater Flamingo in Tanzania (Pinkest bird!). A hawk-avoidance training program is created.

After one 3 year stint, they left with 131,405 specimens including birds, mammals, reptiles, plants and even human remains (which were only recently repatriated for burial in Africa!)

Once upon a time, when I started birding, this great family included a wide range of species collectively known as the robins and chats. The family reunited in safety. Africa’s Barbets

Originally they were all placed in the family Capitonidae , but over time taxonomists have determined that actual relationships between these barbets are far more complex. Gray-throated Barbet is one of the plainer members of the African Barbet family. Note the strange nasal tufts at the base of the bill.
