Earlier this year a cyclone blew through New Zealand and uprooted a lot of native trees on government land on South Island. The focus of the Department of Conservation has seemingly been turned from conservation to extracting maximum economic benefit out of New Zealand’s large amount of conservation land.

Birds use rectal bristles (at the base of the bill) and tiny touch factories called Herbst corpuscles to detect touch. And again, there is great variation amongst different species.

The Red-billed Starling is more common in Shanghai.

The Gap Between Wildlife and the Animal Rights Movement

The animal rights movement is (rightly) closely associated with protesting things like factory farming, dogfighting, etc…basically, the mistreatment of animals. The birds had evolved without a predator like this, and with the new snake having no predators, it had no problem decimating the island’s birdlife.
