Galápagos: A Natural History, Second Edition by John Kricher and Kevin Loughlin gives the traveling naturalist the tools needed to fully appreciate and experience the Galápagos Islands. I wish I had read this book. They complement Kricher’s text., I also think there are chapters where the photographs crowd out the text.

The many small ponds and waterways attract quite a few ducks, though presumably due to their China experience, they are extremely wary of people. In contrast, Little Egrets almost seem to revel in their high visibility (when they do not suffer from winter depression). These Eurasian Teal s know they are treading on thin ice in China.

I don't believe these animals get the quality of care they deserve for the suffering they undergo. If you "humanize" the animal and grow attached, how can you conduct experiments on it? You have to objectify them and they suffer for it. I'm glad PETA is drawing attention to this issue.

So, maybe not be the best place to visit for monks suffering from depression. My extensive birding experience allows me to be very confident that the bird below is a Rosefinch. But it seems the birds like this habitat, probably as this is a rare more open area on these otherwise mostly heavily forested hills. It is indeed rufous-ish.
