If you love the idea of swimming with dolphins, New Zealand is a great place to do it. I had my first swim with Inshore Bottlenose Dolphins in Northland’s Bay of Islands back in 2000, and it was a tripy experience. So if you are after a unique dolphin experience you could do worse than this New Zealand speciality.

An Ashy Drongo apparently spends approximately 71% of its time scanning (what non-scientists would probably call looking around), 9% eating (less than a typical Chinese human but much more than me), calling 7%, flying 7%, and 6% preening. In conclusion, an experience that will put me off buying anything from that company ever.

We know that the human mind has capacities that are not common in other animals. For example, humans have “Theory of Mind” which is not a theory in the scientific sense, but rather, a capacity whereby we have an internal theory of what is going on in other people’s minds. But that’s another story. Here’s the idea. Just eat the food.

And, they are fascinating.

Second, they occupy an astonishing variety of habitats from temperate Araucaria forests in Chile to alpine scree in New Zealand to seasonally flooded rainforests in Brazil to rocky sea cliffs in Australia. In my experience, parrots form a visibly and numerically important component of the Brazilian bird fauna.

They represent the best of New Zealand’s birding, the astonishing rarity, the fascinating endemism, and the cheering triumph of conservation. On Seymour Island, my group witnessed a very human-like interaction amongst three boobies , one female and two males.
