Guyana’s capital city of Georgetown, a quaint, sprawling network of roads and waterways is a regulated introduction to the country’s 800+ species of birds. Great Kiskadees are ubiquitous in Trinidad and Guyana, this bird’s proportions were slightly different, however.

For these stunning birds are not easily found outside of the Guianas which includes Suriname, Guyana and French Guiana. The Nikon’s BATV crew flew in to Paramaribo where we were graciously hosted at the luxurious Hotel Krasnapolsky for a night so that we could experience the culture and fun of the capital city. I photographed this Guianan Cock-of-the-rock at a lek site near Surama, deep in the rainforest zone of Guyana, and my incredible experience with Andean Cock-of-the-rocks was at a display lek on the edge of the town of Jardin, in the coffee-belt of Colombia, both just incredible birds that make the heart soar with joy!

Black-faced Antthrush : Just as the Maya Antthrush sounds different from the birds in Costa Rica, so do the birds in Amazonia, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Guyanas. It might end up being the same species as the cute little antpittas in Mindo but then again who knows? Buff-throated Foliage-gleaner : No not a case of déjà vu.
