Birding – While Camping – North Lake State Park, Greene County, New York

That’s right, I, along with my family and some really good friends, was camping. Our campsite was gorgeous North Lake State Park in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York, where the air is crisp, the forests are largely intact, and the bears force you to be careful about leaving food out when you go to sleep.

Best Bird of the Weekend (First of February 2021)

February feels like a step forward to our next season, but we’ll still be as mired in winter or summer, depending on your hemisphere, at month’s end as we are right now. Corey enjoyed a long weekend in Narrowsburg, New York, along the Delaware River at the New York-Pennsylvania border.

Right now, though, we can watch and listen and enjoy. Of all the species he saw he had one that was easily his Best Bird of the Weekend, as it was a new bird for him in New York State. Montezuma Winery: Carbonated Rhubarb Wine

So far, the closest Roseate Spoonbill to me in Albany, New York has been a bird discovered in the last week just over the border in western Massachusetts – but I don’t really care about my list in that commonwealth enough to cross the state line, even if it is for a spoonbill.
