This group is made up of rescues that are trained with American Sign Language and hand commands. I didn’t know this, but the Dalmatian Club of American mandates euthanasia of all deaf pups. Today we would like to introduce you to TN Safety Spotters ! They are then trained to become registered therapy dogs. How truly sad.

Animal welfare groups led by the Humane Society of the United States have agreed to abandon a fall ballot issue against animal cruelty as part of a deal with state farm groups brokered by Gov. The town has become so overrun with dogs, that the government began offering a tax exemption of $17 per stray that was offered for euthanasia. That’s one dog for every two inhabitants, according to the BBC. Activists said what the government was doing qualified as “animal torture,” and they called for legislative reform.

Rescuing the Vick dogs was a controversial move by Best Friends and some animal groups, most notably PETA, did not agree with it. I'm a dues-paying member of both groups but, while I support euthanasia when it is CLEARLY an act of mercy, I come down pretty hard on Best Friends' side here.

At issue is Section 599f of the California Penal Code, which, among other things, prohibits slaughterhouses from purchasing, receiving, selling, dragging, or pushing non-ambulatory animals, also known as “downers,” and requires immediate euthanasia of such animals.
