May delivers one of those amazing times of the year when we’re too busy looking at birds to sit around talking about them. Let’s make this quick…

I managed to catch up with many of my favorite spring migrants at most of the usual Rochester hotspots, yet my best bird actually came to me; I stuck my head out of my home office window only to find myself essentially eye level with a Blackburnian Warbler. Wow! A weekend that included well north of a hundred species is a difficult weekend for which to decide what is the Best Bird of the Weekend and Corey had that enviable task this weekend. Somehow, despite seeing both species of cuckoo that show up in New York, two dozen species of wood-warbler, and host of other birds, he managed to narrow it down. Mourning Warblers are never a guaranteed bird in Queens and seeing one at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge was a real treat. That’s a bird that is worthy of being Best Bird of the Weekend on one of the best weekends of birding Corey is likely to have all year.

How about you? What was your best bird of the weekend? Tell us in the comments section about the rarest, loveliest, or most fascinating bird you observed. If you’ve blogged about your weekend experience, you should include a link in your comment.
