Thanksgiving 2010 will be Baby Sky's first, and our opportunity to introduce her to the notion that our family doesn't eat animals (not to mention that other historical story we'll be correcting). There will be no greyhound corpse on our table, no turkey corpse and no pig corpse. There will be no pies or cakes that were made with milk that was meant for calves, or eggs that represent dead male chicks , forced molting, debeaking and other mutilations and cruelties.

In this film, we see farmers interacting with the animals they will eventually transform into food (chickens, pigs and cattle). The farmers in the film confront very difficult questions posed by the filmmaker about why they think their approach to processing of meat is different than that of factory farming.

We recently got an email from a rescue group that specializes in blind dogs. I am very excited to help spread the word about them and the work they are doing! Every dog deserves a good home! The Blind Dog Rescue Alliance is a small group of volunteers in the United States and portions of Canada dedicated to helping blind and visually impaired dogs. They help through rescuing dogs in shelters, assisting blind dog owners, and educating the public about these wonderful dogs.

Stamps to the Rescue ! Adopt a shelter pet stamps from the postal service were just revealed on the Ellen DeGeneres Show! We love Ellen, not only is she funny and positive, but she has a big heart for animals (especially the ones needing rescue)! So it was no surprise that she would help unveil these great new stamps from the US Postal Service. This campaign continues the Postal Service’s 50+ year tradition of raising awareness of serious social issues with special commemorative stamps.

On the pet side, the H3N8 virus, or canine influenza, has been a growing concern. H3N8 is the virus that causes flu in dogs, and while there are no known cases of a human catching the flu from their pet, it can be passed from dog to dog.

Baby the Maltese recently got the chance to try out two great coco based products from CocoTherapy , and she has some to share with two lucky readers! She loves it! We let her try a chip, and also tried rubbing a bit of the oil on her ears, which are often irritated. The coconut oil is the only thing that she will actually come over to us to put on her ear, and it doesn’t hurt that she can also like a little from our fingers!
