'Birders are, as far as I can tell, not particularly fussy about where they rest at the end of the day. In part this is because, for many travelling birders, sleep is a resentfully given concession towards bodily needs, rather than an essential part of a balanced life. Birders do not, as a rule, sleep in. Hotel breakfasts are a rarely eaten extra. Hotel rooms exist only to fill the necessary hours between the last drink of the night and the early start the next morning.
