Fog, drizzle and four road blockades

10,000 Birds

I am in a state of shock: late May, warm weather and fog! In the morning in the lowlands, fog out of season! However, soon we are sneaking out of Belgrade, getting ourselves large cappuccinos at the en route drive-in McDonald’s and continuing to our first site: Beljarica Backwaters. The water level is quite high, no exposed mud bars nor shorebirds. The fog is not thick, but drizzle obstructs distant views.

Birding Jonuta Road, in Tabasco, Mexico

10,000 Birds

Tabasco is probably the wettest state in Mexico. During Mexico’s dry season (which is just now ending), most of the country turns brown, as our plants survive the annual drought by dropping their leaves. But Tabasco only turns from a big swamp into slightly swampy grasslands punctuated with some remaining swampy jungle. As such, it offers some unique birding experiences.

Why do animals from the same family attack each other?

Reddit Animals

So the other day I was watching funny pet cat videos and I started thinking. If one of these cats approached a tiger or lion I am assuming that the altercation would not go well. But then I asked myself why? They are both from the same family so why would they not become friends?

"funhouse mirror" test?

Reddit Animals

I know that there are several species of animals that pass the "mirror test", i.e. they recognize themselves in mirrors (dolphins, apes, corvids.). Has there been any tests using "funhouse" style mirrors that distort the image? Would a chimpanzee look in a wobbly mirror and be able to identify themselves?

Any ideas on how to keep my cats who has different diets from eating each others food?

Reddit Animals

So, I have two cats. One of them is sterilized, the other one isn't. I always buy two types of cat food. I live with my bf but we are both working during day and there are times that we are not able to be at home to monitor them while they are eating. Lately i've been noticing that the unsterilized one keeps losing weight while the sterilized one keeps gaining.

HELP! I found a baby magpie being circled by a murder of crows, parents no where to be seen. I have since brought it home in a shoe box.

Reddit Animals

I didn’t know what to do, but it seemed pretty certain the little one was going to get eaten. Sorry if this was the wrong thing to do. I hung around for awhile and saw no magpies at all, no nest, nothing. The only thing stopping the crows from getting it was me, so I picked it up and explored the area trying to find its parents. I eventually found some magpies, and what looked like a nest.

Ok I’m really high but bear with me

Reddit Animals

Why don’t animals produce milk their whole lives, not just when they give birth. It seems like a nutritious and easy way to feed the population. Mothers seem to produce milk only during birth period not because they had an lifestyle changes. (I could be wrong) So an animal doesn’t lactate because of lifestyle changes but because it knows it needs to feed the baby why haven’t animals adapted to always make milk.

Raven.in London

Reddit Animals

I saw a raven in my garden today. In London. I’ve literally never seen one anywhere other than the Tower of London. It was huge and destroying the suet filled coconut shell I put out for the normal birds. Wish I’d got a picture. Is this more normal than I think? Has anyone seen them just moseying around in back gardens?

Are there any animals that reject members of their packs or familys or disassociate from them?

Reddit Animals

Do you have any examples of animals breaking ties with other family members or pack members? In humans there are justifiable reasons for that, but are there occasions in nature that they animals give valid reasons to being broken apart from (hurt other pack members for example) and are consequently cast away from the pack?

My ferret nebula

Reddit Animals

Nebulas lump is a build up of saliva, instead of leaving through the mouth it gathers in her pouch, the size it is now means it has just enough pressure to slowly push the saliva out, she's been to a vet multiple times about it and we've decided to not operate on it as it doesn't cause her any discomfort or pain, other then the obvious lump she is a happy healthy ferret with a big personality.

When to Release a Baby Bird

Reddit Animals

My daughter found a nest of baby birds. All the babies had been torn up, except for one. She decided to take care of it. When she initially found the bird, it had few feathers and mostly quills. We discovered that some towels and a small space heater could keep the baby warm, and water mixed with dry dog food could be fed to it. I also read that spraying water on the feathers is beneficial, so we did that.

Do you think animals that can recognize themselves in the mirror would be able to recognize a drawing of themselves too?

Reddit Animals

I saw a video of an ape reacting to someone drawing a smiling stickman. That made me wonder if the ape recognized that this was supposed to be a man smiling. Then I wondered if Apes or other animals like that can recognize what drawings represent, and maybe even if they could recognize a drawing of themselves? Internet won't give me a satisfying answer.

DOGS IN GROCERY STORES

I was at QFC yesterday (Northgate/Roosevelt Way). I was really surprised to see two individuals shopping along with their large dogs. I have seen from time to time, someone bring in a tiny dog and place a towel under them, then place them in the shopping cart. That kinda bothers me, too. But both dogs were big and one woman looked at me, like 'what in the heck were they thinking'?

I’ve seen it on my walk while I was on the path, and it ran from me but I passed by it and looked right at it and greeted it by saying “hi bunny” in a sweet voice and it didn’t run.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF A WILD, INJURED SLOW WORM

Guys, I need immediate help and I have no idea who to ask. I was mowing the lawn, and I accidentally cut a slow worm's nose. It's eyes and mouth are still intact as far as I know, its the tip of it's head that's injured. If needed I can provde a picture, but anyway. I need to know how to help it. I pulled out an old fish tank and set up some sort of decoration we had for out fish so it can hide inside, and I put some of the mowed grass on the bottom so it's not just glass.
