The new world bird list, called AviList, has been created to replace the confusion of four world checklists (HBW and BirdLife International, Howard & Moore, eBird/Clements, IOC World Bird List). It lists all 11,131 species of birds there are in the world. In addition, there are 19,879 subspecies, 2,376 genera, 252 families and 46 orders.

Raden Soerjo Forest Park is an area of montane evergreen forests and also has a fairly high mountain (Gunung Arjuno, 3399 meters). It is about 3 hours by car from Surabaya and about 2 hours from Malang – though as a major local tourist spot, it may take longer to get there on weekends. Local attractions include waterfalls and hot springs.

The Amur Paradise Flycatcher is one of the sixteen paradise flycatchers in the genus Terpsiphone. For several species in this genus, the males come in two morphs, a rufous one and a white one, with the white one typically much rarer. The encounter of such a white male at Nanhui, Shanghai, in May 2025 led me to prepare this post, as I had not seen a white morph male for several years.
