PlexiDor Dog Doors: A “New Breed” of Dog Doors!

4 The Love Of Animals

'I am blogging on behalf of BlogPaws Pet Blogger Network and Plexidor. I received compensation for my time from Plexidor for sharing my views in this post, but the views expressed here are solely mine. While we didn’t get the chance to try PlexiDor for ourselves, we are quiet impressed by them. They have some awesome features that we have always thought dog doors should have (security for example).

The Lazuli Bunting Will Certainly Brighten Your Day

10,000 Birds

'During March and April the Lazuli Buntings ( Passerina amoena ) begin showing up in Southern California but we don’t usually see them up north until May or June. The bright turquoise blue head, contrasting rufous breast and conspicuous white wing bars make the mature male Lazuli Bunting easily recognizable (click on photos for full sized images).

Photos of Birds People Like

10,000 Birds

'What makes for good bird photo? This question has many answers depending on who you ask. Granted there are general requirements a photo must have to be considered a good bird photo. In my opinion, a good wildlife photo has to be in focus, particularly the eyes of the subject, the subject should be what attract one’s eye into the photo, and no other elements in the photo should be a distraction for the viewer.

'If you are a birder and you visit Trinidad and Tobago you must go to the Caroni Swamp. Actually, scratch that. If you visit Trinidad and Tobago you must visit Caroni Swamp. Why? Because the Scarlet Ibis show is the best show in the country. What’s not to like about big, bright red, big-beaked, birds? Nothing, that’s what. And there is no better place to see Eudocimus ruber than deep in the mangroves that make up Caroni Swamp.

Do The Splits

10,000 Birds

'The recent American Ornithological Union (AOU) decisions to split Sage Sparrow (RIP) into Sagebrush Sparrow and Bell’s Sparrow has the Birdosphere buzzing on everything from field marks, vocalizations, status and distribution to historical records and hypothetical patterns of vagrancy. The failures of the proposals to split White-breasted Nuthatch and Sandwich Tern have not exactly been forgotten, but they may not be getting any new treatment by the AOU in the near future.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Last of August 2013)

10,000 Birds

'So was that really summer? I know that we in the Northern Hemisphere technically have almost another month of summer, but as August ends, so too does so much we associate with this hot and happy season. I’m still wondering what happened to the heat! I though that the bird below was going to be the best bird of my weekend. Luckily, as I enjoyed this beer and several others with friends, I spied a Chimney Swift fluttering aloft.

Keep River National Park

10,000 Birds

'We have just returned from a bush camping trip to the north of Broome that took us over the border. There are very few towns between Broome and the Northern Territory and the distances can be overwhelming for those unfamiliar with a large open country. In a vehicle you have several hours between towns and fuel stations, so when we came across a Japanese cyclist in the shade of a tree in the middle of nowhere we stopped.

After driving for half and hour we arrived at Los Cardones and we still could see the Cachi Mountains on the west.

Where Are You Birding This First Weekend of September 2013?

10,000 Birds

'Portstewart may be considered one of the finest bird watching points in Northern Ireland, but visitors will find crane flies more prominent this time of year! This weekend, at least for those of us in the United States, takes us across the threshold from symbolic summer to fall. Ignore those inconveniently sweltering September days: the next three days are your last this year to wear white pants.

Getting Lost in North Sydney

10,000 Birds

'The North Shore of Sydney is, as I’ve often observed, a great place to watch birds. On my last visit, which lastes four days, I didn’t have much time to sneak away from family, but I did get to check out two new sites. One, Warriewood Wetlands, was a site I had tried to visit before only to get lost. This often happens to me, because I’m rather vague.
