They look crap but presumably offer some protection for the chicks, though not from each other (see the murderous activities within the nests in my previous post ). A Crested Serpent Eagle , looking a bit ridiculous after a rain. Another “maybe this is” species: a possible Wallaces Hawk-eagle.

Photographed within Beljarica: five White-tailed Eagles by Snezana Panjkovic. Two hundred metres further on, two young White-tailed Eagles were soaring. Yet, the primary job of Beljarica is not to support eagles and otters, but to control the floods. I barely started when some sulphur (a.k.a. Easily enough, they got it here.

The Crested Serpent Eagle is another species bound to suffer from a naming error in perpetuity. The Crested Bunting would certainly be a highlight in a post on buntings (such as this one ) but does not particularly stand out here in Yunnan. A worrying trend.

This is irksome, as the premise is that we need to save the animals (and which ones is an interesting discussion) because we will suffer if they are gone. For only $450,000, we could buy almost all of the habitat neded to protect Ecuador's remaining frogs. But again, he's a conservationist, so none of this is a surprise.

The Kerkini Lake, Greece: Dipped One, Got One

By the cliffs we find several Eurasian Crag-Martins and a consolation species – a family of Golden Eagles in the air! The next morning is for the Kerkini Lake, one of the youngest national parks of Greece, protected only ten years ago, in 2006 and inhabited by 11 amphibian, 27 reptilian, 44 mammal and 312 bird species.

Birding Shanghai in June 2022

I wonder what Americans would think if, in a Wikipedia entry, a Bald Eagle would be illustrated using a photo taken at an Albanian zoo. We Germans of course chose a much more aggressive national bird to match our (hopefully only past) militaristic instincts: the white-tailed eagle. But I am grumbling a little bit about it.
