This fear of the dark and deep is the reason why I am happy and grateful every day I wasn’t born a duck. Seriously, ducks must be the toughest creatures ever, the Chuck Norrises of the bird world, because they endure this thing all the time. He doesn’t go there for the ducks, but for the fish.

Common Moorhens at Hannover Zoo

Intriguingly, Common Moorhens are also rather common in Germany’s large ornamental city parks and zoos. At these places they are neither shy nor reed-dependent but can often be seen grazing on lawns like cows or swimming on open ponds no less visible than a rubber duck in a bath tub. Best Bird of the Weekend (First of July 2018)
