He uses geese killing at a fictional university as a comedic subplot. I've googled this and can't find a single critique of the book that mentions that he is making a joke out of animal cruelty. Tags: animal cruelty books. Has anyone ever read Richard Russo's book "Straight Man?" It's not funny at all.

En route to our next stop we slowed down next to a park and spotted the now countable Egyptian Geese. Only one cuckoo? If Carlos were as good as advertised we would have had several. Instead, he decided that my complaining about being hungry meant we had to head to a French bakery where I could gorge myself on unbelievably tasty croissants.
