Best Bird of the Weekend (Second of April 2016)

I don’t know which legislative branch to appeal to, but there ought to be a law that mandates life birds on a birder’s birthday. Perhaps we should require lifers on anyone’s birthday. Sure beats cake! I spent several hours of an otherwise excellent weekend dipping multiple times on a rare ABA Tufted Duck. How about you?

Birds of the West: An Artist’s Guide–A Book Review

And, John Laws widely praised The Laws Guide to Drawing Birds (2012) is mysteriously missing. ’ Since these boxed informational sections are not listed in the table of contents, this is the only way to find them apart from browsing. I also love the design of the book itself, credited to Kate Basart of Union Pageworks.

The area has a law in place to prevent attracting deer, you can have a bird feeder, but you can’t offer food on the ground. Granted, the law is written poorly, but the man was given several warnings and insisted on feeding birds on the ground and attracted huge flocks of ducks and no doubt raccoons at night.
