I caught traveler’s diarrhea four days ago in the jungle (Imodium to the rescue, but just barely). I had never been to Colombia before so didn’t know the best birding spots in the vicinity of the capital. Military checkpoints outside of cities are a common thing in Colombia. Oh yeah, I almost forgot.

As Chilean officials and volunteers rescued 17 birds they noticed the birds were foaming from the beak. The species is being re-introduced in Colombia and Ecuador where the condors are either locally extinct or persist in very low numbers. Other birds were seen crash landing. Another sick condor and two dead ones were found nearby.

Four lions, rescued by Animal Defenders International (ADI) from a Bolivian circus when the country banned the use of animals in circuses have a new home, and a life of luxury at the ARK 2000 sanctuary in Calaveras County. The ADI rescue operation was backed by Bob Barker. ADI also rescues animals in distress worldwide.
