The montane forests of Costa Rica and western Panama are home to at least 50 species of birds that live nowhere else except for one or two that also occur in northwestern Colombia. Quetzal also lives in cloud forests in southern Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. At least that’s the case for Costa Rica.

Black-faced Antthrush : According to the IOC list, this one is already split from the Mayan Antthrush of southern Mexico and northern Central America. The same can be said about the population in Colombia and Ecuador so this could end up being a future, three-way split. from Mexico south to Costa Rica.

Its historical year-round range stretches from extreme northwestern Colombia to northern Mexico, with migration into the southwestern United States in the summer.
