I’ve heard of parks in Florida that have red-shoulders who have figured out how to grab chicken pieces off of grills as an easy food source. She would put out a chicken thigh a day (or sometimes a frog) on a wooden tray feeder and the hawk would immediately come down and take the food.

Like a "BBQ, pony rides and a petting zoo!" When I started thinking about trying to get the association to cancel the pony rides and petting zoo (which are often part of one business as a quick Google search of " traveling petting zoo " will demonstrate), my several-year vegan husband said, "What's the use? What would you do?

A farm-animal breeder who ran what a prosecutor called "the zoo from hell" was convicted Tuesday of animal cruelty. The animals included ducks, chickens, guinea hens, rabbits, sheep, dogs and cats. And people wonder why I'm so disappointed by humans.

This was the same for many other of the animals there: potbelly pigs, a sad otter, rabbits, chickens and Bengal cats. The zoo also allows patrons to pay to interact with certain animals, allowing kids to flop around with them in enclosures. They were cowering together under a bright light for all the passersby to balk at.

My scheduled rodent pick-up day wasn’t for another two weeks, so I called my friends at the local zoo and begged for help. But I was on a work deadline, so by the time I arrived at the zoo the vulture had eaten several pork chops and some very nice free-range chicken.

There are the endemics, which are odd in their own way, and then there introduced species, which are so varied in their type and origin that you get the feeling you’ve arrived at the aftermath of a small zoo that escaped. It should surprise no one that someone brought horses, or goats, or chickens. But hedgehogs? Greenfinches?
