In my opinion, and I am a vegetarian, the second definition of humane is the MINIMAL that we should expect. Livestock don’t contribute to campaigns, but agribusiness does. Tags: farm animal welfare factory farm agribusiness. In other words, the proverbial happy farm animal. The eventual kill is quick, clean, and painless.

The Humane Society of the United States is the big bully on this strange playground. I wish their mission was to end animal agriculture.

Most informative for a discussion about vegan advocacy is the section about the animal rights movement (and unfortunately he alternately calls it “animal protection” and also refers to welfare, perhaps because of the Humane Research Council’s study that people prefer the word “protection”). But I’m merely making his point.

The tiresome Hitler was a well-known vegetarian comment is included in this segment, but I found it irksome long before that. But there is a significant contingent who is not as enamored with the Laboratory Animal Welfare Act as he is. Part III: Pepper Goes to Washington. It "guarantees humane treatment?" Maybe on paper.

There is a general consensus that vegetarianism and veganism are different philosophically. I do disagree with some of what follows, though, and agree with some as well (my comments are in italics): The animal rights movement must adapt their political campaigning strategies to these psychological facts. How about this?

Hello, We've recently launched a new website, the PB&J Campaign. It takes a slightly different take on vegetarian advocacy—trying to quantify the effects of single meal decisions to protect the environment and improve animal welfare.

This comes at an enormous cost to animal welfare, the environment and of course public health. A shift toward more vegetarian options would indeed benefit us all.
