Twenty years ago, flocks consisting of a thousand European Turtle Doves were a common sight in Serbia in spring. Turtle Doves have been declining in Europe since the 1970s, and in this century alone, the continent has lost 40% of its population of the species. Ten years ago, those flocks were reduced to a few hundred birds.

A Little Win

This email was flagging up the activities of a ‘sporting agency’ in Britain who were offering trips/holidays to Morocco to shoot Turtle Doves. Two of the three companies issued emails or statements suggesting that they would not run tours until they had researched the issue further, a third just removed the advertising.

Birding Beljarica in August

I started the campaign for the protection of Beljarica, raising public awareness and collecting more than 10,000 petition signatures, not only because of its Eurasian Otters , White-tailed Eagles , Black Storks , Icterine and Eastern Olivaceous Warblers , etc., Also, a European Roller and a Turtle Dove made their appearances, too.
