The tigers keep wandering out of their reserve and taking cattle from nearby villages, taking what little these already poor people have. In exchange for a handful of wildebeest, oryx, impala, buffalo and kudu, not to mention the occasional lion, enormous areas of wilderness and all the species they contain are set aside and protected.

This week I will introduce you to the section from Fish Creek to Buffalo. My journey this week was a return trip from Fish Creek to Buffalo. I continued on to the old Buffalo railway station and there are toilet and picnic facilities available and a playground for children. Two Cattle Egrets with four cows!

A cold, productive day spent birding with a friend from Buffalo was marked by two owls, lots of ducks, Tundra Swans , several gulls, and other targets not possible in tropical Costa Rica. Cattle Egret – Bulbulcus ibis; House, 7-Jan. The locals don’t always get along with the migrants.

John James Audubon first heard the sparrow in July, 1944, on a buffalo hunt in North Dakota. So, I was excited to read reports in late 2017 of a pair of Whooping Cranes being seen on a cattle farm. I easily spotted the Whooping Cranes in the cattle field. It has always been a difficult bird to find, even when abundant.
