Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) recently proposed reintroducing California Condors in the Pacific Northwest. One management tool used by FWS is reintroduction of an endangered species into its former range. In other words, an experimental population of an “endangered” species is treated as “threatened,” which has fewer protections.

Natural areas include Pelham Bay Park, Van Cortlandt Park, Woodlawn Cemetery, New York Botanical Garden, and the Bronx Zoo. The book is divided into three parts: “Introduction,” “Avifaunal Overview,” and “Species Accounts.” Most birders will go straight to the “Species Accounts.” It’s a very mixed chapter.

” Writing about owls means writing about roughly 250 species (I counted 245 on the 2022 Clements spreadsheet, but I might have missed a few, and we all know that each classification system is different). The chapters on courtship and breeding and roosting and migration are the longest, which isn’t surprising.
