Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay welcomed a new baby female reticulated giraffe on Tuesday, December 27, 2011. The breeding program has been a great success. A giraffe’s gestation period is 15 months, and the mother and baby will be kept out of view for the first three months so they can be watched closely.

Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay recently welcomed two more baby giraffes, bringing the herd to 17! The giraffes joined the rest of the heard on the Serengeti Plain on July 13th. What is neat about giraffes is that it is common for other members of the herd to become involved with the care of newborns. And they are super cute too!

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay welcomed a new baby reticulated giraffe just days ago. The addition brings Busch Gardens’ giraffe population to 15. The term “reticulated” refers to the giraffe’s net-like pattern of spots. These births are part of a successful long-term breeding program at Busch Gardens.

Well, Copenhagen Zoo is back in the news; a few weeks after killing a giraffe and feeding it to some lions, it went and killed some of those same lions. To really get a story out there it needs to go viral, like the story about that giraffe did. Losing a few non-breeding lions in zoos a great deal less.

In breeding season, Jackson’s Widowbirds jump out of the tall grass in one of the world’s strangest display flights, cute African Quail-Finches are best seen as they come down to drink at waterholes. Only bull African Elephants reside in the Ngorongoro Crater The birding is equally astounding.
