It was clearly a Cattle Egret , due to the orange feathers, but it is June! Cattle Egret should not be in breeding plumage in June in the north of Australia! Cattle Egret have been recorded in Australia since 1948. They are usually observed in flocks around cattle, but this one was alone. Cattle Egret.

Birding a flooded highway

Grass Owls are also present in the area, but remain off our bird list. With the first rains we get mass frog breeding events and the flooded land is covered in tadpoles. All the tracks onto the station property were underwater and all of the Brahman Cattle have moved to the highest ground that they can find.
