His somewhat dubious claim to fame includes a book describing his trip to New Guinea despite the fact that he never actually got to the mainland area of New Guinea ( source ).

Among the Efe (Pygmy) people that I lived with in the 1980s, the young men would in fact disappear from the bosom of their families and spend a lot of time, perhaps months, living on their own in the forest. And in those days there were bird books with pictures in them. And now, the number of bird books is approximately one gazillion.

Joining us for the day was Sheri Williamson, who literally wrote the book on hummingbirds in North America. But I happen to think that those stories are better than the ones with happy endings.

After talking to Barb’s family, there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that they were anticipating her passing with a sense of weary relief, so I was surprised when the hospice nurse called me on the day of Barb’s death and asked me to come out to the home quickly. Then I noticed that several family members were also nursing bleeding wounds.

Either that or having family friends in Germany. At least Europe has some great bird species, so this past June my fiancé, Jess, and I booked our trip to Deutschland, for our first trip overseas, where I would focus on birds and she castles, towns, and culture. Quality birds, especially in the area.
