In mid-December, I was birding along the Beljarica levee (Beh-LYAH-ritza), my local patch north of Belgrade, when something other than birds attracted my attention: three wild boars , appearing all black because they had just swam through the swamp to reach the bottom of the levee. I think all were males, at last two huge ones certainly were.

Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park and Lower Peirce Reservoir-Singapore

We were then able to walk down Upper Thomson Road and get public transport back to our hotel. By the time we reached the Upper Thomson Road we had a spent three hours sauntering through the park and had a list of over forty bird species. Sign for Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. Common Gliding Lizard.

The majority are clearly Mallards , followed by Garganeys , with one and possibly more Green-winged Teals , also Ferruginous Ducks … Surprises among them are one Common Shelduck , a species that most likely breeds some 15 mi from here (and my first shelduck of the year) and an even greater surprise: two Eurasian Wigeons.

Finding an Asian Openbill in Singapore-second ever record!

Arriving in Singapore we soon collected our bags and got ourselves a NETS card for travel on public transport and to also use in supermarkets. The train system is fast and efficient and was our primary mode of transport. We had already observed 164 bird species in Singapore and the next new bird was one that we had heard, but not seen.

Central Catchment Nature Reserve Singapore

It is very easy to access the Central Catchment Nature Reserve by public transport. Then there are the Wild Boars, Plantain Squirrels, Monitor Lizards and of course the bird-life. There is a really good number of bird species to be observed in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve and it is an eBird Hotspot. Warning signs.
