My landlord and I found this bird on the ground unable to fly. Is it just a chick, or closer to a fully grown bird? When it lands, it's right wing always lays extended, though it's able to bring the wing close to its body when we pick it up. We were worried about it's eyes when we took a look at them, is this normal?

But when you’re moving closer to great birding, there are some consolations. Turning in the other direction to reach the Kim Williams Nature Trail, I was treated almost immediately to the most confiding Nashville Warbler I have ever met, a handsome male bird who landed on a branch just a few yards from my face to sing.

I usually do not write much about traveling to and from birding places but my friend and I arrived in Malelane in the afternoon. The room was one stuffed with pillows – it seems some landlords think the more pillows are in a room, the cozier the place is. Fortunately, we were there for the birds, not for the room.

The series of birding workshops and meetings continued across the map, through Ulcinj, Montenegro, then Samobor, Croatia and Stip (described here ), North Macedonia, leading to Brussels, the unofficial capital of EU. Before heading higher, above the tree-line, I asked our landlord if there were any minefields to be aware of.

In many ways, birding Wawushan is a nightmare for a solitary and crowd-hating birder like me. An unnamed bird guide called them “avoidless tourists”, which sums it up rather nicely. So, all this makes birding this place an occasionally less than pleasant experience.
