A winding track through dense woodlands takes us to the Telia Lake in the southeast of the Tadoba Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra. There’s a Sloth Bear in tall, dry grass, barely 50 metres from us, but all we can see is a dark, shape-shifting shadow that eventually becomes all but invisible. These are my first wild tigers ever!

Nitin hopes to enlarge his collection of photos of Tigers. I am curious to see whatever awaits us in the Nagzira Tiger Reserve. Birds included common species such as Black Drongos , Jungle Babblers and a Hoopoe. Nitin will stay for a few more days and get his close-ups of Tigers.)

In front of us, in the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve one wild Grey Junglefowl runs across the road. Other species I can recognize are colloquially called crocodile bark tree, due to the bark pattern, and paper bark. There is something written on those pages… written by tiger claws. February 2013. And we are in it.

This can mean some interesting birding, if you can bear the Shanghai heat … Of course, the egrets and herons described in my last post are still around. Webster`s Dictionary defines Cuculophotobia as “The fear of bird photographers to post cuckoo photos online due to the high likeliness of getting the species assignment wrong.”

As she continued her monologue about these cats, the Wildcat cautiously walked in our direction, never taking its eyes off of us, stiff-legged, ears motionless, striped like a standard “tiger” domestic cat but entirely in grays.
