One of my most memorable outings was a night-time game drive in Kenya when we saw an aardvark and a zorilla, so we ticked off both the first mammal in the field guide’s index, and the last. I’ve also sat for hours in unabated hides in Bulgaria where it’s a matter of luck whether you see a bear or not. They particularly like chocolate!)

Africa’s Barbets

Finally the most northern population ranges are found in coastal forests of northern Tanzania and Kenya. Well, the answer is that the moniker Red-headed Barbet was first given to the South American species that still bears and thus it had precedence to retain the name.
