The Kirtland’s Warbler is an endangered bird species that breeds primarily in the jack pine forests of northern Michigan. Specifically, the warbler’s primary breeding range is concentrated in a few counties in the northern Lower Peninsula and the eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Having never birded Cape Henlopen State Park before I was kind of unsure as to the best place to go, so after entering the park on Sunday morning I pulled over to get my bearings and to figure out what route through the park I should take. Blue Grosbeaks were common and clearly on breeding territory.

Or an animal that could use the aid of human intervention, such as the Florida panther, which has benefited from the culverts built to help it safely cross highways (221). This is all very unveganly, but I went for it nevertheless.

Am I willing to give up the field guide which bears the mud and dirt of so many falls on so many birding trips? At the same time, care has been taken to eliminate exotics no longer a presence, such as several of south Florida’s parrots.
