Even so, I believe that the faint black line at the tip of this gull’s less bulky bill, and its apparently greenish legs, allow me to add the California Gull to my yearlist. I had thought that my camera use on two previous neighborhood outings was not enough to demand recharging its battery. I was wrong.

Zelda, the Wild Turkey who makes Battery Park, at the southern tip of Manhattan, her home, managed to survive the flooding and devastation that Manhattan suffered due to Hurricane Sandy.

These particular birds were in Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan, but the same story is taking place all over the world right now, as few species have successfully adapted to as many locations as the House Sparrow. A couple of weeks ago I watched and photographed a young House Sparrow getting fed by its mother.

I took so many photos on this outing that my battery ran out of charge before I finally saw the Grebes , so no photos of those.). The Stilt Sandpiper has a slightly shorter bill, with an odd drooping tip, that gives it away. Such a thrill to get a good shot of a male Ruddy Duck , still in his summer mating finery!

There are two basic elements employed in it, and both are based on the two black parts each flamingo proudly calls its own: the black tip to the bill and the black flight feathers. The black tip to a flamingo’s bill means business – reproductive business. No batteries required.

On one occasion, he tried catching a cobra by the tail and got bitten on the tip of finger which he slashed with a pocket knife. Purple Herons are not very common and quite shy in Shanghai while here, they behave like they own the place. He often had trouble with his creditors and during the time of his death, he was found to be insolvent.

The Southern Atlantic Ocean crashes onto the beach here and Brown Boobies surfed the waves, occasionally touching a wing-tip into the face of one to leave a momentary streak. It is surprising how quickly the pain is forgotten when batteries die, media cards need changing and the focus lock refuses to budge.
