I like bats. So when I spotted a large, handsome Hoary Bat grounded at the side of the path while I walked Muir early one morning, my first thought – after I determined that it was not dead – was “how can I help? A different Hoary Bat, on a better day. It turns out, helping a bat is hard.

Meanwhile, I would love to be able to have some kind of law against human beings producing/reproducing more than one person per person. But my stance is also categorized under Gray Matters because, in my perfect world, we wouldn't be spaying or neutering anybody. How contradictory is that? So mikey, I agree with you in theory.

Recently, 29 fish species of fish were recorded in this area, together with 8 amphibians, 9 reptiles and 62 species of mammals (including 20 species of bats), together with Wild Boar , Roe Deer , Wildcat , Golden Jackal , Eurasian Otter , European Pine and Beech Martens , Steppe Polecat , Stoat and the Least Weasel.

Back in December I was in Orange County, California, enjoying the holidays with my in-laws. Fortunately, a Painted Redstart was frequenting Irvine Lake, a mere fifteen minutes from my in-laws house, in December. (In In 2012 I got my 500th bird in the ABA area when I twitched a Painted Redstart at Lacy Park in San Marino, California.
