Only slightly shorter, but more elegantly built than the Marabou, the Saddle-billed also has a sister species in Asia, the Black-necked Stork. It is also related to Wood Stork of the Americas and Milky Stork of Asia.

Originally, the gorget was a piece of armor that protected the throat or gorge. Red-flanked Bluetails are actually quite common in Shanghai in winter, but seeing a proper male is not that easy. Polynesian Starling ( Aplonis tabuensis ) This starling is part of the wide ranging genus of glossy starlings found across the Pacific, Northern Australia and Souteast Asia. According to the guides it is a forest bird in Fiji (and an elusive one, I never saw one in my week there in 2005) but in Tonga I saw it in the towns and country gardens.
