Birding Argentina – Araucaria Provintial Park | Cruce del Calballero | Piñalito

This tree is of the coniferous family and this bird has made its life around the southern temperate forest where this tree has been constantly destroyed to clear for farmland development. We did not find any maps for the park but we drove around on narrow dirt roads that crossed park.

It belongs to the Parulidae family, but along with the rest of the Basileuterus genus is non-migratory. This individual was seen in Costanera Sur, Argentina and found a gentle pish to be simply irresistible. It is a common bird of humid, lowland forest in Central and South America where it is usually found in the lower storey.

There’s a King Penguin ( Aptenodytes patagonicus ) on the label, a very first appearance for the Spheniscidae family here at Birds and Booze. King Penguins breed in Antarctica, the Falklands and a few other South Atlantic islands, and in Argentina and Chile, along that odd border between the two countries in Tierra del Fuego.

What family is it from? After a very productive day higher on the mountain, Adilei capped out the day by locating a family of the birds which consisted of a mature pair with a grown offspring (probably). Red-legged Seriema, (with the only other member, the Black-legged Seriema) is placed in the family Cariamidae.
