I get that you’re really angry, I mean, he was a popular lion and yes, his cute widdle cubs will probably die to, but I can’t help feeling you’ve kind of missed the point a bit, and well, ending all hunting in Africa will not solve much and maybe make things worse and… No, no, I’m not a hunter. I’m sorry.

Further down the road, we reach a derelict building with a large veranda hidden among the trees – an abandoned hunting lodge (if I were in a situation to invest, I would choose to upgrade this into a luxury wildlife lodge). Well, one reason might be – this animal is not only endangered, but even rarer than the Tiger!

Pippa called the park ranger in charge of animals. It took most of the rest of the day, but finally at around 5 we found the pack literally on the southern fenceline of the reserve, deep inside the hunting concession that made up the bottom of the park. Support Wildlife ACT in supporting them. We were stunned, simply stunned.

The reason Borneo lends itself to this type of birding holiday is that tourism in Borneo leans towards outdoorsy, wildlife based tourism anyway. Contrast this in Asia to, say, Singapore, Hong Kong or Bangkok, all of which have great birding nearby but are destinations people go to for reasons other than wildlife. Danum Valley.
