There are few animal rights stories in the news. Not the day, the film, where Bill Murray experiences the same day over and over again. People are talking.

At minute #9 for me last night was a young woman going through one of the obstacle courses and getting pummeled, just like everyone else. The commentator says that part of her winnings will go to abolish animal cruelty (yes, abolish). It's all in fun, with much of the humor coming from the commentators and the special sound effects.

The Calgary Humane Society works with the Stampede to make sure the animals are safe (and by the way that's impossible if the animals are being used in the rodeo. Safe, unharmed rodeo animals is an oxymoron). Calf-roping (which of course is a hideous practice, but so are the rest of the animal-related rodeo activities).
