Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge, North Dakota. In the case of these Tricolored Blackbirds , they are formed for DEFENSE. This is my flock of Laysan Albatross , on Midway Atoll. Certain flocks of birds really grab your attention. Some birds breed in flocks, at least in part to avoid predation.
