There is a bit of a drama around the adoption of the Portuguese (yay!) Water Dog puppy Bo. Some are saying that President Obama broke his promise to get a rescue dog. But he wasn't really adopted from a breeder either. Ted Kennedy gave him to the Obamas as an act of friendship. Tags: breeders Obama dogs.

Hey, if it's important enough to mention in his speech that he was getting a puppy, it's important enough for us to talk about it. He did say in the past that he would adopt a dog. Tags: Obama dogs. Let's hope he sends a progressive message by giving a shelter dog a new home. Maybe he could get two.

They can say that the puppy was needing to be re-homed, therefore it's like adopting from a rescue group. But I didn't campaign for a presidential greyhound for exactly the same reason Obama's decision was disappointing: it glorifies pure breed dogs.
