But nope, the built it and then they laid an egg in it. I have tons of trees and could put it close but not sure if they would be able to find it and don't want them to abandon their egg. when I did I realized I was being watched by the bird. I assumed I had frightened them and they wouldn't return.

Help I accidentally scared off a bird!

There are eggs so I hope it returns I’m just not too familiar with how it works. I’ve read that they can abandon their nests but I don’t know how true that is. I hope I didn’t scare the bird off or maybe harm it. I didn’t do anything I just got away from the nest as fast as possible but I don’t know if it will return.

If we had been predators, their actions would have (hopefully) led us away from the nest, keeping their eggs and chicks safe. Next to it lay an egg, the baby inside fervently pecking and tapping until it too could break the shell and emerge onto the dunes. While not as adorable as chicks, I still love to see bird eggs!
