Anybody out there know why the Mississippi Kite has abandoned most of the Mississippi? The Bell collection of birds is impressive. Collection of Blue Birds. The Bell has always offered the same exact explanation for the Kite’s range getting so small, and I never quite believed it. The Mississippi Kite.

We had a nice collection of birds of prey for the day. and Canada, it had apparently discovered an abandoned nest, on which it was clearly showing nesting behavior. There weren’t any Red-tailed Hawks. (I I can’t believe I have made it through the first twelve days of the year without seeing any Red-tailed Hawks.)

I have still seen each of these species out in the forest between two days and three weeks after they abandoned my yard. Fortunately, my own garden is currently being visited by a nice collection of resident species. Although, oddly enough, my garden is currently hosting a MacGillivray’s Warbler on its way north.

Regardless, these remaining pockets of Atlantic Rainforest harbor an incredibly diverse and often highly endangered collection of bird species with well over a 100 regional endemics. First collected and described in the 19th century, this little bird escaped detection for over 100 years until its rediscovery in 1987.
