As of mid-November 2021, the Collaborative had submitted more than 4,200 checklists (up from 1,700 in 2018) and has observed 691 species in the United States (up from 618). Although the Collaborative list is a global one, this post focuses on the U.S. submissions. The Collaborative has also added six states.

2018 proved to be one of my best birding years ever. In addition to spotting exciting new species in Florida, including the rare Snail Kite, travel across the country brought me into contact with birds in Oregon, California, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Alabama, and more.

And, Ursula Murray Husted’s “Koan” is a lovely graphic story touched with a wry sense of humor, about a visit to Horicon Marsh, Wisconsin to watch the pelican migration, a simple story that is really not simple because it’s all about flying, disappointment, and surprises.

In June, the 2018-2019 Federal Duck Stamp was released. It received a temporary reprieve in 2018, though surrounding areas did not.) Horicon NWR (Wisconsin): 98.7%. Birders have been encouraged by the American Birding Association and others to buy Federal Duck Stamps. Santa Ana NWR is relatively small at 2,087.50 to 44.6%.
