Beljarica Backwaters are finally protected!!

Since August 23rd 2022 it has been considered a part of the newly protected Foreland of the Left Bank of the Danube Reserve. Best Bird of the Year 2014

2014 has been a good year for us at 10,000 Birds. Larry starts us off right with an owl that makes birders drool: I was able to see and photograph many great birds in 2014 but my Best Bird of the Year would have to be the Great Gray Owl , the largest Strix in North America. This rocky area high up beyond the beach sand offers great camouflage and protection. They will do it for other threats as a distraction to protect their eggs or chicks. They can be two or three kilometres away, but if the nest-sitter calls the other one will soon arrive to help protect. I suppose they know me!
