No explanation was given why those sites were rejected or why this one was chosen.

I haven’t been birding yet in 2013. Oh, I’ve gotten my first bird of the year ( European Starling – yay?) and a handful more ( Rock Pigeon , House Sparrow , and my first native bird, White-Throated Sparrow ), but for the most part I’ve been sticking to indoor pursuits here in chilly New York City.

Since then, we have seen a marvellous recovery, with an estimate of 123 in 2012, 145 in 2013, 165 in 2014, 197 in 2015 and now in 2016, around 232 Great Bustards roam the wilds of Germany, nearly doubling their number within just a handful of years! This is prohibited under German nature conservation laws and a moral no-go.

I don’t really understand why this 15-page section is included in a book already bursting at the seams. Conservation is, of course, very important, but the species accounts already indicate this information. I wish they had provided more background on how this guide came about and what each of their contributions was.
